Bruno Mars 24K Magic World Tour Review – Bruno Comes To San Jose SAP Center

The Silicon Valley ‘activated their sexy’ Thursday night with a party rocking concert at San Jose’s SAP Center featuring Mr. 24 Karat himself – BRUNO MARS!

Former Fifth Harmony member, Camila Cabello opened the night with some of her latest singles since leaving the girl group.

At about 9:38 pm, the crowd antsy for the show to start, white curtains finally lifted to reveal the main act. With his crew intact, Bruno graced the stage roaring the first song of the set – Finesse.

Finesse along with other songs from his latest album 24K Magic Perm, That’s What I Like, Versace On The Floor, and 24K Magic – kept the crowd on their feet throughout the entire evening. Fans did not want to sit down, nor did they want to stop dancing. The 31-year-old singer didn’t either. He glided left. He glided right. He glided forward AND back with his smooth popping and gyrating dance moves.

Highlights of the 24K Magic World Tour, which began in March of this year, were the old school live band vibes. Bruno and his band didn’t miss a beat with their in-sync choreography and variety of instruments used. Concert goers basically experienced a mix of 70’s music groups, Jackson 5 and Tower Power, but made for the modern era. A little unoriginal, if you ask me – but on the bright side, it’s nice to see an artist pay homage to the past in an appreciatory way.

Unfortunately, the wardrobe could be added to the list of unoriginality. Sporting customized throwback baseball jerseys, Bruno went for relaxed and laid back fashion. It was very Tupac-ish. With millions of dollars and tons of creative minds backing him, I would have liked to have seen his duds unique to him – which is what he normally brings to the table.

I would have also liked to have seen more production design elements added to the show. Yes, the fireworks, fire pyrotechnics, gold confetti, and LED lights bursting off stage was pretty cool. But it seemed minimal for the amount paid for each ticket… A $200 admittance fee should give us a little more bang for our buck. (Or I could be just a very picky customer.)

All in all, the night put Bruno’s vocals on blast. His voice was unmeasurable. His talent was pure, extremely raw, and good for the soul. I just wish we could have gotten more of it. For me, after an hour long set, the 2-song encore didn’t suffice.

Others, however, left beyond satisfied. Shouts of “That was AMAZING!”, “That was SO good!”, and “HELL YA!” were heard exiting the building.
