Universal Studios Hollywood lit up in joy and wonder last night December 4, 2014 for a Nighttime ‘Grinchmas’ Whobilation with Spectacular Fireworks, Fanfare and Snow! Gathered around Universal Studios, fans were in awe of the transformed theme park as it glistened Dr. Seuss’ town of “Whoville” featured in the iconic holiday movie “How The Grinch Stole Christmas.”
The night began with Whoville Mayor Augustus MayWho and Cindy Lou Who inviting Martha May Whovier and the Who Dolls to take center stage and kick off the night with holiday dances and jingles. The Grinch and Max The Dog jumped in on the fun to say hello to everyone followed by Los Angeles Mayor, Eric Garcetti, as he presented Mayor Augustus MayWho with the first-ever “Grinchmas” Mayor proclamation read in Seussian rhyme.
Hollywood’s Who’s Who—Alexa PenaVega (“Nashville,” “Spy Kids”), Carlos PenaVega (“Big Time Rush,” “The Penguins of Madagascar”), and Yvette Nicole Brown (“Community,” “Family Guy” and the upcoming TV series “Odd Couple”); as well as 200 LAUSD children and the entire town of Whoville accompanied to illuminate the curvy, swervy, twisty, turny towering “Grinchmas” tree to signal the start of the festive Wholiday season at Universal Studios Hollywood.
As the tree was lit, Wholiday singers performed a melodic a cappella rendition of Christmas and pop rock favorites along with glittery snowfall and a spectacular display of fireworks.
“Grinchmas” will resonate throughout the theme park including an animated Whobilation performance at the originalWhoville movie sets aboard the world famous Universal Studios Tour. “Grinchmas” runs weekends on December 6-7 and 13-14, then continues daily from December 19, 2014 through January 3, 2015. “Grinchmas” is included in the price of theme park admission.
