As the holiday season wraps up, would like to recognize one act of kindness that contributed to the genuine meaning of giving back this year.

West Hollywood Hair Stylist and Salon Owner, Rene Talavera, took to the community of West Hollywood, Ca, and teamed up with America’s healthiest grocery store, Whole Foods Market, to give employees a one-of-a-kind “Pay It Forward” salon experience.

Presented by Prayer Salon, Josh Johnson Home, and Whole Foods, the day consisted of complimentary haircuts for the Third and Fairfax location.

The break room went under transformation with Celebrity Interior Designer and HGTV Design Star’s Josh Johnson to become a winter wonderland oasis dressed in luxury Josh Johnson Home decor.

I spoke with Rene and found out his thoughts on the glamorous time of giving. He said, “The day has been wonderful. Everyone has been so great and supportive. Watching people leave with a smile on their face just puts a smile on my face.”

To get the word out and highlight the holiday festivities, Whole Foods designed posters to create buzz and excitement. “Employees found out that I was going to be giving haircuts through the poster the marketing department made, ” Rene exclaimed. “It did all the talking, and that’s all it took. A poster.”

Confidence and self-love are clearly important to Rene and his work. Asking about employee feedback, he said, “The feedback has been incredible. Employees are leaving my chair feeling a renewed sense of self, and that’s all I want for them; to feel good and confident about themselves, especially around the holidays.”

It's in the giving

As for creating a salon in the break room, Rene didn’t have any doubts that it could be done.

“Having done hair so many years, even with weddings and such, you can always count on such awkward environments. I didn’t want that for this event,” said Rene.

He continued, “I wanted to bring the salon to them. So I teamed up with my good friend Josh Johnson and his incredible decor line, Josh Johnson Home, and told him we had to take care of our community. And from there Josh was on board to create a luxurious salon experience for Whole Foods.

Rene is hopeful to return to Whole Foods for another day of giving and paying it forward to the community of West Hollywood in 2017.
